What is the American Dream?

As America changes day by day the American Dream changes, but exceeding all other American dreams is the dream of having an unlimited supply of money. As new generations arise the greed for money continues to become out of control. Back in the 1900's people did not care for money, but instead cared for their family, making sure they had food on the table, clothes and shoes, and a roof over their head. Look at how happy families were back then compared to now. Families now will get in a tight fit with money and argue, point fingers, and soon divorce making the children, if they have any, lives very difficult to go through without getting into trouble. In turn, this actually cost these unfortunate children their dreams because then they have a record. But there is always those very fortunate few that make it through their growing up years with both parents. These children dream of being a doctor, astronaut, or a cop because their parents tell them if you want it work for it and you will succeed. Granted some do not accomplish their initial dreams because of money or other hardships, but they always have more happiness in which ever profession they choose because they know that that is what they want out of their lives. After all is said and done the real question for all Americans is what is MY American dream  not what is the American dream. For me personally my dream is to get through nurse practitioner school and move off with my girlfriend to somewhere like Texas. Reason is so that our kids, once they are old enough to have a job, can find a job because having a job in high school taught me a lot about life before I even graduated. Once we get settled down in a nice home and start the family then I will call my dad and ask him what he thinks about the life I have created for my family. Hopefully he will say, "You have exceeded my expectations son". To me, the American dream has its own preference by the people, but if it was up to me every man and woman would have a loving happy family, a good job, and self fulfillment. Life is to short to set yourself at such high goals that you cannot enjoy it because it is the only one you get.
